Ways
of Rearing Children
Having a child is one of the most worth doing
and difficult experiences a person can have along his or her life. Although it
may seem like how easy it is to raise children, many people are confused about
how to educate them properly in the process of raising. All children are
different, so the ways parents use to bring up them differ from each other too.
Parenting styles influence on children's characteristic such as success,
self-confidence and manners. It should be applied to children being chosen a
correct method that helps their developments by parents. Parents can have three
different styles on child-rearing: Authoritative, permissive and uninvolved.
One parenting style of child rearing is
authoritativeness. Authoritative parents are both strict and sensitive. They
not only treat with tenderness and affection toward their children but also set
limit about some points. Besides, parents listen to them and try to solve what
the problem is if children disobey rules which they create. They support them indulgently
when children have a justifiable reason. In fact, this parenting style is
considered as one of the most balanced to be used in child rearing. If a child
is brought up under these conditions by an authoritative parent, the child can
probably have good self-discipline, strong determination and hence great
success.
Another parenting style of child rearing is
permissiveness. Permissive parents are a bit more lenient and loosey-goosey
with the rules. Thus, they use less punishment. They accept their children’s
wishes easily and allow them to do more things. They give their children a lot
of compassion and love but not strictness. Additionally, when children share
any problem with them, permissive parents approach to them like a friend and they
give them freedom to do as they like. Children raised under these conditions
cannot stand limits and rules put by the authorities and adapt to such things
in social life. Also, they have less self-discipline, and are careless and
disobedient in their future lives.
Another parenting style of child rearing is
being uninvolved. Uninvolved parents are the most careless and aloof toward
their children; therefore, they do not use any punishment or award. They let
them loose to do what they want, and meanwhile they do not constraint for good
or bad under no circumstances. Above all, they deprive their children of family
warmth and trust as they do not spend enough time with them. Consequently, the
children who are raised by uninvolved parents have lack of self-respect, and
are not adaptable and cooperative.
Briefly, there are three child-rearing styles
which are authoritative, permissive and uninvolved as we can see above. Children
reared depending on these styles have either self-discipline, strong
determination, great success or have less self-confidence, self-respect,
achievement. Regardless of which style we see above, what is important is that
children should be raised as beneficial individuals for the world. Thus, if we
are more attentive, conscious and responsive in the process of raising children,
we will have brought up good individuals who can provide peace and security for
our generation.
